Bharatanatyam Classes in Chennai

Our Founder
Rooted in tradition and layered with nuance, Bharatanatyam blossoms under the mentorship of an accomplished guru like Srekala Bharath, Managing Trustee of Thejas School of Performing Arts (TSPA).
Srekala Bharath is a multifaceted Bharatanatyam exponent, creative choreographer, guiding mentor, and visionary cultural ambassador, whose saga with classical dance spans over five decades. Having embraced the art at the tender age of seven, she remains fiercely dedicated to her pursuit of artistic excellence.

Born on July 4, 1961, Srekala Bharath commenced her formal Bharatanatyam training at the age of 7 under the legendary guru, K.J. Sarasa, a distinguished expert of the Vazhuvoor bani. Her guru was instrumental in shaping her foundational years, inculcating values like discipline, devotion, and artistic sensibility rooted in tradition.
On May 22, 1972, she performed her Arangetram, marking the beginning of a phenomenal journey that has been embellished by more than 900 solos and ensemble productions across 32 countries. Every performance was more than a display of technical prowess. It was a heartfelt expression of meaning and movement, earning her innumerable accolades and admiration on Indian and international stages alike.
She carved a niche grounded in the classical arts, with a deep love for dance and a steadfast commitment that saw her blossom into one of the most respected Bharatanatyam artists of her generation.
Her graceful footwork, nuanced choreography, and deeply emotive Abhinaya became her signature. Yet, what truly distinguishes Srekala Bharath is her unique ability to tie the rigours of classical dance with the pulse of modern storytelling.
Dasavataram, Shakti Mahimai, Arupadai Veedu, Veeram Vilayndha Bhoomi & Devamadhargal are some of her finest productions, showcasing her creativity and skill in infusing life into timeless tales through Bharatanatyam.
